Science 2 Journal Entry 9

In todays lesson we had to do the practical being displacement. What I had to do was use the equipmernt of zinc, Copper Sulfate solution and thongs. We had to place the zinc in the Copper Sulfate soluition and we had to see the results. In my view I had seen the results to be very interesting. The zinc had turned out to turn into a black colour in which it was very unexpcted.

In todays lesson my group and I had done an experiment in which we had to mix substances and chemicals together. Every time we had tried it with another substance we would record our findings and observer from the book if they were correct or incorrect. It was not a difficult task because it was straighforward and simple.

We had also received the results of our last projects and it had turned out that there was no difference in change from the last time we had seen them.

In todays lesson we had a practical job. We were to get 3 test tubes and 3 beakers and fill them with a liquid. We would then place a metal in them and see a popping reaction if done correctly. Safety issues with this practical are not to smell the liquids and always to have your safety goggles on at all times.

Acids have a sour taste and turn blue litmus to red. They also conduct electricity in water.

Metals could be classified into two groups, Metals and Non Metals.

In this lesson we had received the results of our nail (Corrosion) practicals. As to my surprise I had expected and unexpected many things. The things that I expected was that there will be a change with the nails, but the things that I didn’t expect were the actual changes. The results were

1st tube – No reaction

2nd tube – Weakened Nail + colour change to yellow

3rd tube – Rust

4th tube – No reaction

In todays lesson the whole class along with their groups were advised into completing two practical tasks, one being on combustion and the other on decomposition. Also we had to burn magnesium. It was a little hard with decomposition seeing that we had to repeat it another time. Overall I had enjoyed the lesson of today.

In todays lesson my class had to do a test involving the periodic table. In my opinion this test was a little hard seeing that I didn’t understand most of it. Although it was a multiple choice test it did give me a few confidence in doing it I probably would think I have passed.

In todays lesson we had to do a practical task which had involved the use of testubes and liquids. The second project that I have recieved in my opinion will definately better than the first for the reasoning of it is my second seeing that I have more experience and from how things are going so far it looks like itll be an easy project also seeing that 90% of it would be done in class so that there would be no communication problems. In todays lesson we had done 2 practicals 1. A CorrosionPractical and 2. A Precipitation Practical. Yes, today I had enjoyed the lesson seeing that it was a new and better experience from the others.
